So what's next for Nancy Dye?

She said she lives everyday like an open book and wouldn't rule out possibly running again one day.

The room at the Holiday Inn near Tanglewood Mall was packed with Dye supporters Tuesday evening as the results came in. In an emotional speech, Dye thanked her husband, volunteers, and all supporters throughout the campaign, which lasted more than a year.

Dye raised nearly $1 million dollars in campaign funding, which is more than Edwards and independent candidate Don Caldwell combined.

Dye said she was disappointed in voter turnout, but wished Edwards the best.

"Of course I'm disappointed and I never want to disappoint anyone else, but this is a tough race and we gave it our all. I'm proud of the campaign we run; I mean ran. It was very disciplined and focused on the message," Dye explained.

Dye has been campaigning since the middle of last year. Dye said Tuesday night, she was going home to think about what's next.
